VPK is designed to prepare Florida’s children for kindergarten and develop the skills they need to become good readers and successful students.
VPK includes standards for literacy skills, strict accountability, age-appropriate curriculum, substantial instruction periods, manageable class sizes and qualified instructors. The VPK school year program consists of 540 instructional hours. Our state-funded VPK program is Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 11:30 am.
A MAJOR emphasis of our program is concentrated in getting our 4-year old children ready for Kindergarten by meeting and exceeding VPK Standards.
As the years have progressed with VPK, we are seeing a real need to EXTEND the preschool morning to 4 hours. We highly recommend this program option to give your 4-year old child the benefit of additional small group learning. This increases the VPK instructional time from 540 hours to 720 hours.
The state of Florida pays for the first 3 hours of each day and then the parents are responsible for the 4th hour at a low monthly rate.
Our regular preschool operating hours for our part-time program is 8:30 am – 11:30 am.
September 1st is used as our cut-off date for most classrooms to stay in sync with the Hillsborough County School system. Children entering our part-time 2 year-old program must have turned 2 by June 1st.

LUNCH BUNCH is available until 2:00 pm for children enrolled in our 3 and 4-year old part-time preschool program. Lunch Bunch is a time for your child to socialize and eat lunch with their friends. After the children eat, they are free to explore centers and use their imagination to discover new worlds through art, music, science, blocks, and story time and an additional outside playtime.
This program is primarily designed for households where both parents work outside the home and need full-day child care. Bay Hope Day School not only provides “all-day” care in a nurturing environment, but they also receive the same benefits as children enrolled in our part-time program with a structured learning environment in both the mornings and afternoons after nap.
The hours of the Full-Time program are the hours the center is open and not the recommended time that your child should be here each day. We encourage parents to keep their child’s day to a maximum of 9-10 hours/day even though the center is open for 11 ½ hours.
We offer a 10-month and 12-month program, based on each family’s need. Full-day classes are offered for children 2 – 4 years of age.
Our Day School Bus transports children in the afternoon from Northwest, Scharzkopf, and Hammond Elementary Schools who are in Kindergarten – 3rd grade. We will also pick-up on EARLY RELEASE Mondays.
Time is set aside each afternoon for homework assignments; playground and sports; and centers that are elementary age-appropriate. A daily devotion time is an integral part of our elementary after school program.
Morning care for the Elementary Program is not available on days when public school is in session, however when Hillsborough County Schools are CLOSED, Bay Hope Day School is OPEN on most days for a full-day from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm. Bay Hope Day School offers a full-day during the summer for elementary-age children. We have several of our preschool graduates to come back and join us in the summer months.
